Humpback whale
From June to November, humpback whales stream past Sodwana on their winter migration between the Antarctic and the warm breeding waters off Mozambique. They pass close inshore, and boat-based whale-watching trips launch in season to offer responsible viewing from the water.
When and where to see them
Humpbacks pass Sodwana from June to November. Boat-based whale-watching trips launch in season, and on a calm winter day you can often pick out blows and breaches from the top of the dunes, without ever leaving the sand.
