Coral reefs
The warm Agulhas Current sustains the southernmost coral reefs in Africa here, and they are extraordinary: soft corals in every colour alongside hard corals that build the reef itself. The reefs are named for their distance up the coast from the launch, from the shallow, sheltered Two-Mile Reef to the deeper, wilder reefs further north.
The reef grows only a few millimetres a year, which is why divers and snorkellers keep their fins and hands well clear of it.
When and where to see them
The reefs are the heart of every dive at Sodwana, from the sheltered training grounds of Two-Mile Reef to the wilder reefs further north. Snorkellers can float over the shallows of Two-Mile Reef when conditions are suitable. Remember the Visitor Code: fins and hands well clear of the coral.
