Coastal dune forest
Sodwana’s beaches are backed by high forested dunes, part of the ancient coastal dune forest that makes this stretch of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park so rich. The forest shades the camps and cabins, fills each morning with birdsong, and holds the dunes together against the sea, which is why visitors keep to the tracks that wind through it.
When and where to see them
The dune forest is all around you at Sodwana: it shades the camps and cabins, lines the road to the beach, and climbs some of the tallest vegetated dunes in the world. Keep to the established tracks, which protect both the forest and the dunes it anchors.
